About Our Neighbourhood
Between the Don Valley and Jackman Avenue and resting on the northern side of Danforth Avenue is the community of Playter Estates. Named for George Henry Playter, who owned the land in the 19th century and built the famous Playter Mansion, immortalized in countless television shows, commercials and films.
The community’s proximity and ties to the Danforth community, which has a Greek cultural focus, characterize the area. The Taste of Danforth festival, an annual festival of Greek cuisine and culture, is one of the city’s most popular and well-attended and has brought a lot of attention to Playter Estates in recent years.
