The owner of 2170 Gerrard Street East wants to triple the size of the site. There is a two-and-half storey, eight-unit building on site now and the owner has applied to sever the lot and add a pair of semi-detached dwellings.

On Sept. 23 the Committee of Adjustment turned down the application. The owner wants to build the new homes just one metre from the front property line when a six-metre setback is required and plans to have a four metre setback in the rear when a 7.5 metre setback is required.

The committee refused it, indicating the proposed structure is not appropriate development for the land.

The owner appealed the committee’s decision to the Ontario Municipal Board. The city will fight this application when it goes to the board.
